Skelmersdale Running Club short-listed for 'club of the year' at the annual Active Lancashire Awards
Skelmersdale Running Club members proudly represented West Lancashire at the Active Lancashire regional awards ceremony on Friday 17th November 2023.
Organised by Local Authorities from across the county and Active Lancashire the event highlighted the achievements of individuals, clubs and businesses in Lancashire who have worked tirelessly this year to support their local communities and create an environment where people can thrive. The occasion also celebrated the hard work and dedication that sports clubs and individuals have played in increasing participation in physical activity in their local areas.
The local winners from 14 districts across Lancashire gathered at the awards ceremony held at Ewood Park in Blackburn to celebrate outstanding achievements in 9 categories.
Skelmersdale Running Club were short-listed for the regional 'club of the year prize' along with another 11 other sports clubs across Lancashire. Congratulations to Preston Pirates BMX Club for winning Lancashire club of the year prize.
Skelmersdale Running Club Chairman Kevin Walker speaking at the awards ceremony said "We are so humbled and honoured that we were chosen by our Local Authority to represent West Lancashire in the Club of the year category and to be short-listed for a regional award. To share the occasion with so many thriving sports clubs and inspirational people was an absolute privilege and an unforgettable experience for our members.
This is a huge honour for Skelmersdale Running Club who are just one of many other fantastic sports clubs in West Lancashire who play a huge role in encouraging people to take up exercise.
It is a fantastic recognition for the Skelmersdale Running Club who have grown from 7 initial members to 70 members in just 7 months. In that time the club and its volunteers have inspired and supported two successful Couch to 5K programmes enabling many more people to get active through the sport we are so passionate about”.
